Lumber cut list calculator with saw kerf

This free lumber cut list calculator fits your parts on fewer boards. Enter your board length, saw kerf, and cut list. Saw kerf is the thin slot your blade cuts out. It runs on your computer. Nothing uploads. No account is needed.

Plan your cuts

Made for same size boards and straight cuts. It does not plan sheet goods like plywood.

Your lumber and cut list

One length per line. Add a quantity with x, like 24 x 4. Use decimals such as 24.5, not fractions. All entries use the unit you picked.

Your cut plan

Bars match the real lengths. The blue ticks between parts are the wood your blade turns to sawdust.

Before you cut

Count the blade. Check the board. Then cut.

Measure the cut your blade makes

Saw kerf is the thin slot your blade cuts out. It is often near 1/8 inch on a table saw. Cutwise saves one kerf between parts. The leftover shown already has those cuts removed. If the leftover is thinner than your blade, get extra wood.

Enter the board you have

Trim the rough ends first. Then enter the length you can use. This lumber cut list calculator expects each board to be that same length. It does not see knots, bends, or grain. Look at each board before you cut.

Know what the plan is

Cutwise places long parts first. It fills one board, then starts the next. That gives a good shop plan fast. It is not a proven best answer. Check each number at the saw. Note: this is not a board feet price tool. Board feet means how much wood is in a board. Ask your lumber store if you need that price.

Lumber cut list calculator questions

How is saw kerf counted?

One blade width is saved between cuts on the same board. The leftover shown already has those cuts removed. Measure the leftover before your last cut.

Is this the smallest possible board count?

No. Cutwise uses a simple longest first plan. It finds a good layout fast. It is a planning aid, not a proven best answer. Check each number before you cut.

Can I enter fractions like 24 1/2?

Not yet. Enter decimals such as 24.5. Use one length per line, with a count like 24.5 x 4.
